Fianna and the Fae
((In Progress!!))
Silver Tara, the Tribal home of the Fianna Tribe is eternally safe by virtue of a pact with the Fae. A very old an powerful pact. Anyone who would wish to do an individual Fianna or its tribe tribe harm will never be able to find Silver Tara.
The Fae are the reason why the Fianna are such staunch protectors of a code of hospitality. You never know when a mysterious guest could be one of the Fae. Most common is an unwritten rule to feed guests and never harm a guest in your own home. Fianna are not stupid, the guest must also show appreciation to the host, and also not harm a member of the Hosts' household (or other guests). A guest that breaks this code of hospitality is met with violence and/or vengeance. It is generally accepted that anyone who does not observe this code is clearly not a Fae and do not fear repercussions for responding to this betrayal with violence. It is common for fae and Fianna alike to impose additional “rules” to this code, but the core rules of the code are fairly universal amongst the Fianna tribe.
The Fianna generally know of the Seasonal courts; The Fianna know that there are 4 courts of the fae, and once a year the Fianna have given respect to these courts through some sort of revelry; Spring: Imbolc, Summer: Beltaine, Autumn: Lughnassa, Winter: Samhain. These festivals mark the beginning of that particular season. Wile the Fianna have their own reasons for these festivals as well, any fae who appears is commonly viewed as an honored guest. The Fianna don't understand the differences of the courts themselves, but they generally have classified as Seelie or Unseelie. Seelie are generally those fae who act with honor and are more straightforward. While the Unseelie are the ones that are dark but tend to tell the best stories and cautionary tales and teach lessons.
According to the Fianna culture the part of the Oath they need to fulfill to the Fae is: to assist in the destruction of Fae oath breakers, the reasoning is that the Tuatha de Danann (or “children of Dana”; ancient Fae who may or may not still exist) who held this as their own duty and interbred with the Fianna (many claim their bloodlines are that of the Tuatha) the Fae generally do not complain, as they feel very strongly about oath breakers as well.
Fae and the Taint: Tainted Fae are generally rare, but when this does happen, Fianna will generally go to extreme measures to ensure the Fae can be saved by cleansing; destruction is the last resort if there absolutely no hope of redemption, and then they see it as their own responsibility to be the ones who “does the deed”.
The Fianna have been telling each other stories about the Fae for generations. As such, now and again, an actual Fae will show up and listen. Fianna have respect for the chaotic creatures of dreams, but that respect comes with the understanding that a Fae is never exactly what they seem.
