Look on eBay for refurbished peak design travel backpacks. They are a little cheaper there, but I am not sure if they will international ship. In my experience the straps on the peak design are not super comfortable for long carries. It does not fit me properly, and the hip belt like you said is lacking in padding. I want to switch to a proper backpacking pack, but I really don want to lose the things I love about the LAPG.
