I have another friend I would like to tell you about. This other friend has an equally large amount of money as the first person I told you about. But this friend has chosen a different lifestyle. Our room is in the Island House, a stilt building behind the main building. There are twelve rooms in this building. Six of them have a water-view. All of the water-view rooms in the Island House have small balconies facing west, allowing a one-of-a-kind vantage point to mind-blowing, Pine Island Sound sunsets. We're lucky enough to have snagged one of the water-view rooms even though our visit is halfway through tarpon season.

Literally the whole time we were there he was dealing with one issue and problem after another. To watch this friend of mine and what he went through on that trip was very interesting to me. Worth mentioning is the houseboat museum. It is one of the smallest museums in the world and it's interior is authentically '1960s. Here you can see how people lived in houseboats back then. The museum is owned by a man who came up with the idea and is doing much of the repairs and innovations him self. When you look at visitors per m2, than the boat's museum is number one in Holland. You can visit it with your Amsterdam card, or pay a few euro's at the entrance, it is worth your trouble.

Boats can be a major investment. Have a clear and thorough understanding of your needs and your budget. Boats meant for the sea are usually larger, with hulls, and are therefore, more expensive than those meant for the local lake.
