The Umbra, or The Velvet Shadow. It is also called the spirit world or the shadow of creation. Whatever its name, the Umbra is a world that is beyond the world we know. The physical plane is a place of matter and stasis, where basic laws of physics and nature apply (though the laws of physics aren’t known to man). The Umbra exists simultaneously atop it, in it and throughout it, but at the same time, remains apart from it. It is a world of dreams, mysticism, and magic. Those who travel there have no “physical” form and weapons are useless without the assistance of a spirit (a fetish weapon). The restless dead dwell there, calling it The Shadowlands (usually the Shadowlands are a separate section of the deep Umbra, but at Shadow Accord they are the same). It is said that in the eyes of the ghosts, the world through the Shadowlands looks to be in a state of death and decay. It is not so for Gaia’s warriors and Spirits.
