Twitch To Ban Gambling Sites After Streamers Threatened To Strike

Australia's gambling industry has been in the spotlight in recent years, with public inquiries lashing its biggest casino operators due to lapses in money laundering protections.
Online gambling has also been the focus of inquiries, but with its increasing prevalence, the government has answered consumer advocates with a pledge to take a deeper look.

"Gambling content on Twitch has been a big topic of discussion in the community, and something we've been actively reviewing since our last policy update in this area," Twitch said. "While we prohibit sharing links or referral codes to all sites that include slots, roulette or dice games, we've seen some people circumvent those rules and expose our community to potential harm."

HONG KONG, Sept 30 (Reuters) - Malaysian group Genting has emerged as a strong contender to unseat an incumbent Macau casino operator for a new license, analysts and executives say, unleashing possibly the biggest shakeup in the world´s largest gambling hub in over two decades.

Twitch said Tuesday it will remove high-profile gambling sites from the Amazon-owned streaming platform after a number of high-profile streamers like Pokimane, Mizkif and Devin Nash threatened a boycott of Twitch during peak traffic periods.

The Malaysian group's multiple non-gaming investments in China, including a prominent ski resort that was used for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, are also likely to bolster its chances, analysts said.

Sources say that while 'no job was explicitly offered' to Mr Gove, it's understood that Ms Truss 'alluded to a senior diplomatic role working with a major ally' with 'possible landing spots being Israel or the UAE where vacancies are soon due to arise'.

Genting´s strong non-gaming track record, including operating two of the largest theme parks in southeast Asia, would be a big draw for Beijing which has been urging Macau to diversify away from gambling and attract foreign tourists.

Gambling has long been an issue on Twitch. Many streamers openly promote gambling sites to their young audiences. Earlier this week, a streamer named Sliker admitted to scamming over $200,000 to fund a gambling addiction that began with Sliker using Counter-Strike "skins" to place bets. Since skins -- in-game outfits, essentially -- have monetary value, many third-party sites allow users to place bets on professional Counter Strike matches using these skins.
