Overview

Vanilla Minecraft can be fun, but it may get a bit stale after a while. Mojang can introduce new features to the game but you don't have to wait for them to do so. This can help alleviate boredom in your server. Plugins are a great method to do this.

Plugins are server-side software that adds features to the server. It is not necessary to make client side changes like mods. There are hundreds of thousands of plugins available across the internet so there's virtually no moment when you don't have something you're looking for or want.

To install plugins, your server must be running Spigot or Paper. Both of them will accept plugins from the Spigot and Bukkit websites. If you're unsure of what to do to update your server version you can read our guide here.

How to Install Plugins Through the Plugin List

Here at Apex Hosting we have a comprehensive list of plugins from Bukkit and Spigot that are directly integrated into your panel. This is the most efficient method to install plugins on Java servers.

Be Yourself; Everyone Else Is Already Taken

1. Log into your Apex Hosting Panel to select the server where you wish to install the plugins. Be Yourself; Everyone Else Is Already Taken 2. The left side of the panel will display the Plugin List. 3. On this page, you are able to choose either Bukkit or Spigot as the source. The only difference is the results you receive. Both plugins should function on the server. 4. You can search by name or by category for plugins. Click on the plugin you want to install after you've discovered it.

5. Make sure that the compatible version is listed at the top of this page for your server version. You should make sure that Paper 1.16.5 is compatible with Paper 1.16. 6. If you are sure that there is an appropriate version, you can select it in the Version dropdown menu. Then , click install to the right! You can verify the process is completed by checking the console of your server.

7. Once the process is finished, ensure that you restart your server to allow the plugin to load.

How to Install Plugins via FTP

Sometimes, the list of plugins might not contain the plugin you require. In that case , you might require searching online for an immediate download of a plugin's Jar file. There are a few well-known sources to download plugins, such as the Dev Bukkit site, the SpigotMC site, and occasionally directly from developers' web pages or github sites. The best method to find the plugin on the internet is by simply googling the name or the keywords of the plugin.

1. You can download the plugin jar file online.

2. Log into your panel by clicking the FTP File Access tab. 3. Once you have been logged in, search and click on the folder for plugins.

4. Once you're in the plugins folder, click upload to the left and drag your Jar file.

5. WIKIMEDIA Once the file has been fully uploaded After that, you can go back to your main panel page. 6. Restart the server to let the plugin load.

Common Issues

Plugins not loading:

Sometimes, plugins won't start loading after restarting the server. You can determine whether a plugin has been loaded by running /plugins within the game. If it's green, then it's likely to be loaded. It may not be in the list, or it might not be red. Make sure the plugin is compatible with your server version. Also, check the page for the plugin to ensure it does not have any dependency plugins. Sometimes, if you restart the server and look at the console output, it will inform you what error it's giving you or the plugin it needs to work.

<b>Plugin List Download Failure: </b>

If you are trying to download a plugin using the Plugin List on your panel and it is giving you errors, such as it could be stating that the plugin is not downloading properly, this would generally indicate an issue with the source site of the plugin. If this occurs, we recommend you manually install the plugin on the server following the FTP section of this guide.

<b>No Plugins Folder: </b>

If you're trying to manually install plugins onto the server, but are unable to locate the plugins folder then either your server is not able to accept plugins or you not have restarted after changing versions to Spigot or Paper. Check the Jar File dropdown in your panel to ensure that your server is compatible. Some compatible versions include Spigot, Paper and Magma.
