Because of this increase in quality from lower priced auto parts suppliers, it is now less important to pay extra money for a name brand car part. The lower priced parts are increasing in quality, so paying the extra money to have a part stamped with a high quality European label isn't necessary now. The difference in quality between a made in Europe auto part and a made in Asia car part has never been lower.
Next on our to-do list is the air filter. This is another easy thing to do. Under the hood of your car there is a big black box with some clips on it. Just unclip the top of the box and you have found your air filter. Most of them slide out pretty easily and you can check to see how dirty it is. You can blow it out or vacuum it, but if the manual says it's time to change it you probably should. The last time someone at a repair shop wanted to change it for me I said now and I was glad I did. They wanted $40 to do it! I went to an auto parts store instead and bought one for $15 and put it in myself. It took less than 30 minutes including the amount of time it took to buy it and I saved $25. So now you can save $25 and get better gas mileage.
There are often many junk yards in any town that will offer "you pull it" service. This means you can get a better price on 2nd hand car parts if you bring your own tools and remove the part yourself. You will also have a better chance to inspect and decide whether or not the part is in good enough condition for your use.
Make notes on the part or parts you are looking for and see what the best prices you are able to find . Remember, if you can get the same part locally for less than what you are finding on the net (don't forget to include the tax) then you might want to consider buying locally.

Usually your local mechanic may not have everything that you need; but, you need not worry as there are special shops opening up across the country that focus on used parts.
