Why would you want to buying auto parts online? Mostly all the same reasons that you would buy anything else online. Availability of auto is better then trying to run around and find the part you need at different parts stores. Store competition is also much higher because all of the online stores nationwide are competing against each other. The are not limited by location so you can pick from any of them. You also have many more options when shopping online. Not only can you find the part you need but you'll have many different ones to choose from. Not just some OEM part or just one brand of aftermarket part that your local parts store carries.
When people dump their used cars off at an auto parts recycler, they are freeing up precious space in the almost overflowing landfills. It doesn't make sense to throw something away, when it can still be used. If you pick the part from a used car, you are going to be getting an actual manufacturer's part; no knock-offs here. You can rest assured that the parts recyclers will know which parts are usable, and which parts are actually junk.
Bidding can be an emotional process. Start low no matter how desperate you might be in buying the car of your choice. If there are competing bids, exercise control and only bid within your comfortable price range. Do not enter into a bidding war with others if you realize that the bid price has exceeded your budget or it is way above the predetermined value of the vehicle.
Transmission maintenance or repair. Let transmission specializing shops handle automatic transmission issues. Improper cleaning of the connectors and gaskets during transmission flushes may cost you more than having it seen by your usual insurance salvage auction auto.
Check with the better business bureau for any complaints that have been lodged against the shop. Also find out if they were solved to the satisfaction of the customer. Another place to get more information is the internet. There are several sources that will review or comment on shops.
Perform a thorough checkup of the status of the car. Assess its longevity, function, performance, mileage, etc. Tag along an experienced person such as a car mechanic to perform the inspections with you.
Shop around the neighborhood. This is recommended since you have a lot of choices to choose from and there's no mandated average rate by the government so you might pay from as little as only a few dollars if you're lucky to hundreds of dollars if you aren't. Driving around your area will help a lot in giving you an idea about the price range of different auto repair shops and the kind of service these are offering.
Ask about the materials used during repairs. Some shops may encourage mechanics to cut corners and use inferior products. This will save the shop money but may not be good for the car. Be sure to ask if the shop uses new parts or used parts to conduct the repairs. Also, will the shop explain the repairs necessary and save the damaged parts for your inspection? Honest mechanics and auto repair shops will have no problem showing you the damaged parts and explaining the problem to you. In addition, your mechanic should be able to explain if the parts have a warranty. If repairs are needed on a part with a warranty, your mechanic should be able to deal with that situation as well.
