Before taking metal to the scrap yard for recycling, you must separate the metal by type. In order to collect the most value for your scrap metal, you should be familiar with the types of scrap metal and how much they're worth.

Some can be literally acres wide and long, some are simply a lot. It greatly depends on the area that they are located as to how big them can become they are closely regulated by several government agencies because of the potential for pollutants to harm the environment.

Once you have located a salvage auto auction, it is best to inspect the vehicle before you are ready to bid. Arrive early and take your time. This is very important and many times people skip this step or does a quick last minute look over. If the auction is not local, then you might be able to view the cars online on the auction website. There are usually a detailed description of the vehicle and pictures to give you an idea on the condition, title and repairs made or needed.

Shop around, too. There's plenty of companies offering all sorts of different scrap metal prices on various grades of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Know the yards - all of the yards - in your area. Know their strengths, and what materials they offer weaker pricing on. Also be aware of their distances, drive time equals gas money...and spending an extra $10 in gas to get $0.05 of a higher scrap metal price on 10 LB of brass doesn't make sense...or cents!! Don't be afraid to keep a little black book full of addresses, phone numbers, lists of what to take where and when, and all other sorts of notes and information that might come in handy.

But there are some other reasons that might help you feel good about your decision for using cars for scrap. One being that it's good for the environment. That's right; if you're at all concerned about helping the environment then you'll be happy to know that you're doing "mother earth" a huge favor by using cars for scrap, because it's recycling.

What is the overall appearance of the bike. Yes, this may be a salvage bike, but don't take on anything that you will not be able to repair. Especially, if you will have to replace parts because of a shabby paint job. Also, look to see if the bike is sight down centerline, and down forks.

You need not sit in your car just to go to a supermarket nearby. It will not only waste your fuel but will also cause unnecessary pollution. You can walk or use a bicycle instead.

Salvage Yard: When you find it difficult to purchase the auto parts from a store, you may try visiting the auto salvage yards. The bareboat charters offer auto replacement parts at a lower cost and if lucky, you may even come across the right part over there. Here too, take some precautions.

The most common means of selling a salvage car is at auto auctions. In general, auto auctions are venues where salvage cars, along with repossessed cars, are sold to the highest bidder. Most auto auctions are strictly for auto dealers, but some are open to the public. If you are an auto dealer, these venues are a great opportunity for you to buy salvage cars for dirt cheap prices, fix them up, and then sell them to receive great profits.
