The Warner Bros. Minecraft movie has an entirely new director... again. Variety reports that Peter Sollett has been hired to write and direct the long-awaited film. The film was originally planned to be released in May this year. But, the film has faced delays, due in part to director changes. The film was originally being directed by Rob McElhenney (It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia), but he left the project in August. And he had taken the role from Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) who quit in 2014.

Sollett was the director of Raising Victor Vargas, 2002 and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (2008). He's also received acclaim for his work on the short film Five Feet High and Rising. Mojang, Minecraft's original developer is believed to still be involved in the making of the film. Screamyguy's blog

Warner Bros. acquired the rights to Minecraft in 2014 when they acquired the rights to Minecraft. Now, the question is whether Minecraft can still attract the same amount of people as it did a few years ago. It's unclear when the film might be released however, with a director who is now in the saddle and a new director, it might be back on the right track.
