Although the University of Pennsylvania's academic year is over, some students aren't quite ready for the departure.



A group of UPenn students created the Minecraft server and coordinated the development of the campus over two weeks of March. Since then, they've been in contact with Columbia University and Brown University students who are working on similar projects to set up potential challenges similar to the Hunger Games between schools and planned to host spring traditions in the server.



Microsoft bought the block-building game "Minecraft" in 2014 for $2.5billion. It has been one of the most popular games in the world for the past 10 years. It had 112 million active players each month as of September. The number of active users has risen to 145 million.



Students from colleges and universities across the US have been sent home by their schools and switched to remote learning during the remainder of the semester. Some schools switched to remote learning after a student tested positive for COVID-19 which is the coronavirus infection, while other schools took the decision preemptively. Colleges also weighed in on the dangers of having students return from spring break, having traveled all over the world.
