It took three and a quarter hours to complete the challenge without mining and four and a a half hours to win without crafting. It's a long-winded task but it was quick considering all the steps he had go through to gather items that would have been difficult even for normal players.

When I inquire about his motivation for taking on such daunting challenges, he replies casually. "I had not played single-player survival for a bit and wanted to try something different than a normal playthrough," he explains. "Also I thought it would make a cool video."
