Introduction[edit]

The mighty werebear were Gaia’s healers. Legends say that the Garou demanded to know the secret of Resurrection but the Gurahl refused. In their jealous hatred, the Garou attacked Bearkind and began the War of Rage. Though the werebear surpass the Garou in strength, the Gurahl lived solitary, generally passive lives. Outnumbered, they were slain almost to extinction. In the 13th century, the few surviving Gurahl are in hidden places slumbering in a deep hibernation. When a werebear cub is born, the nearest slumbering Gurahl awakens to teach the cub.

Bear Necessities Gurahl are blessed by Gaia with strong wills, and many of the traits of their bear cousins. They were fairly solitary before by choice. Now, their numbers are so few it's not likely they'll see two others of their kind in their lifetime. They have a strong connection to the earth, and their temperament is somewhat reflective of the land they have chosen to protect. For example, the River Keepers are swift and athletic while the Mountain Guardians are hulking and strong. There are no Metis Gurahl - their mates are chosen through a special ritual, and even should two Gurahl mate, no child is ever born of their union.

Due to their rarity, they are no longer allowable for new PCs. There are a few legacy Gurahl and Gurahl kinfolk in game though.

Game Play Differences[edit]

Werebears are very strong and swing for more damage than your average wolf. They do not have Metis. Their Auspice changes with their age, starting with Ragabash (youngest), Ahroun, Galliard, Philodox and finally Theurge when the Gurahl reaches Elder.

Gurahl's Code of Ursa[edit]

Gurahl value Honor, for devotion and respect; Succor, for acts of healing, purification or giving aide to others; and Wisdom, for restoring, preserving or uncovering knowledge or gaining a deeper understanding of oneself.

Their litany is simple, but each has a meaning which can be meditated upon for years.
