A working engine and gearbox. Engine should start easily from cold and should not rattle too much. Petrol engines sound smoother than diesels but are not as economical and there are very few petrol pumps on the inland system. You should take the boat out for a decent run to ensure that the engine does not overheat or lose too much oil pressure.
Avoid Debt. Most people buy a boat on credit and extend the payments over several years. If you build your own boat, you can buy supplies and materials only as you can afford them. When your boat is completed, you will own it free and clear.
These boats vary in shapes and sizes according to the people it can accommodate. The smaller ones can carry as many as ten people. There are bedrooms, bathrooms, toilets, kitchen, living room etc. All the rooms are properly equipped with the gadgets requires. For example in the kitchen there will be a fridge, gas stove, microwave, vessels, etc. For entertainment there are TV's, stereos and sometimes DVD players.
