Ronar-Smith® Beam Expander

A laser beam expander is designed to extend the diameter of a collimated output beam. It's used in applications similar to laser scanning, interferometer, and remote sensing. Bet-WC Sequence water cool beam expanders are developed for even larger power (>200W) CO2 lasers with consistency in outer dimension and water pipe connection.

Unlike current DVDs, which use a red 650nm laser module to learn and write knowledge, Blu-ray uses a blue laser (which is the place the format gets its name). A blue laser has a shorter wavelength (405 nanometers) than a crimson laser (650 nanometers). The smaller beam focuses more precisely, enabling it to read information recorded in pits which can be solely 0.15 microns (µm) (1 micron = 10-6 meters) long -- this is greater than twice as small as the pits on a DVD. Plus, Blu-ray has diminished the track pitch from 0.74 microns to 0.32 microns. The smaller pits, smaller beam and shorter track pitch together allow a single-layer Blu-ray disc to hold more than 25 GB of data -- about five times the amount of information that can be stored on a DVD.
