Weekend Preview: Michigan International Speedway
In Saturday's time trials, Ford teammates Joey Logano and Austin Cindric qualified fourth and fifth, respectively, with Tyler Reddick, Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin and Erik Jones completing the top 10.
But before last Saturday's unlucky 23rd-place finish at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, Creed had recorded two straight fifth-place finishes, his first two top fives of the season. Creed hasn't raced at Michigan in the Xfinity Series, but in two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts at the track, the former series champion has a runner-up finish to his credit.
Harvick led 38 laps, but the key moment for his victory came late in the race during a caution. Ross Chastain and Christopher Bell had a collision, bringing out the yellow flag, and Harvick stayed out to take over the top spot.

"The new regulator will be truly independent, and will be directly funded by the Casino Supervisory Levy paid by both casinos, with independent decision-making on licensing and disciplinary matters," Mr Anderson said.
That leaves five of the 12 Playoff spots wide open for any currently winless driver who can claim a victory in one of the next six races, starting with Saturday's New Holland 250 at Michigan International Speedway (3:30 p.m. ET on USA, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
"And then we just stayed on the phone together because she told me, `There's an active shooter and shots have been fired in the mall.' And at that point, active shooter or somebody shooting at another person, whatever shots being fired, you don't know.
After turning a blistering lap on Saturday at Michigan International Speedway, Bubba Wallace had no idea he had won the pole for Sunday's Firekeepers Casino 400 (3 p.m.
ET on USA, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
That's an opportunity for Sheldon Creed, who in a star-crossed season currently is 50 points below the Playoff cut line. The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender has suffered six DNFs (did not finish) in 20 races this season, four for crashes and two for engine failures.
His run of bad luck included a disqualification after running second at Pocono, where post-race inspection revealed tape added to the nose of his Camry and that of ostensible race winner Denny Hamlin, who also was disqualified.
"Digging along all year long trying to make these Mustangs run faster. They haven't been great this year. But our guys are doing a good job in trying to take what we have, maximize it and do the things that we need to do."

You go to some of these places, I think Darlington is a good example, where California, Darlington -- places that have been super rough -- have been really difficult to navigate in traffic, and even by yourself sometimes, because of the way that the cars bounce around."
"This is one of those race tracks where it just takes everything. You've got to have power. You've got to have the right amount of downforce and right amount of drag out of it. You've got to hit that balance just right. You've got to call the race just right. Michigan is still Michigan. I don't see that being very different than what it's been in the past."
