How to Make a Draw String Backpack

Whether you're an experienced sewer or just getting started with the craft, drawstring backpacks are a great project to try. https://atavi.com/share/vrx379zilp2y to make, and come in a variety of different styles. They're great for travel, overnight stays, and even for storage. You can even add pockets and bottle holders to customize them to your needs.

The first step in making a drawstring backpack is to cut out the two front pieces and two back pieces of the main fabric. You'll also need to cut out two pieces of lining fabric, a drawstring sleeve, an elastic casing, and an optional zippered pocket. Leaving about a 10cm opening in the bottom of the bag, sew the exterior fabric and lining fabric together using an overlock stitch.

Next, sew the side seams with a 3/8" seam allowance. You can use Wonder Clips to clip the side seams together. For more stability, it's also a good idea to use a Fray Block to keep the fabric from fraying.

After you have finished sewing the sides and bottom of the drawstring bag, you can attach the shoulder straps. This project can be done by hand, or you can use a sewing machine to do it. The straps should be about 54 inches long for a child's bag and about 81 inches long for a teen's bag. You may need to adjust the length of the straps to fit your child's height.

Depending on the pattern you choose, you'll want to cut a piece of fabric that measures about the size of the child's bag. For a child's bag, cut out a piece of fabric that's about 15 inches wide and 18 inches long. For a teen's bag, cut out a piece that's about 14 inches wide and 20 inches long. You'll also need a few strips of interfacing and two zippers.

Once you've cut your bag's fabric, you can sew the side seams together. For this, you'll want to use a 3/8" seam allowance and sew a straight stitch. When you sew the seams, you'll want to line up the side seams with the lower edge of the bag front. This way, you'll be able to attach the shoulder straps and keep everything lined up.

Once you've cut the fabric, you'll want to sew the exterior fabric and lining fabric onto the front and back of the drawstring bag. You'll want to use an overlock or zigzag stitch to sew the seam. In addition, you'll need to fold the fabric at the small cuts.

Next, you'll want to add an elastic casing to the pocket. You can do this with a serger stitch, or you can use a straight stitch. The drawstring will go through the casing, so you'll want to feed the elastic through both ends of the casing. Then, you can secure the casing in place with a safety pin. This will also help to distribute the elastic evenly across the pocket.
