NASA had a protracted method to go from Mission Mercury. The Mercury spacecraft might hold only one astronaut and had limited capabilities. NASA designed the craft for suborbital and orbital flights. The longest Mercury mission lasted less than a day and a half. To be able to make a trip to the moon, NASA would have to create a spacecraft that would keep in house for greater than a week.
On December 22, 1937, Edsel Ford announced the appointment of John R. "Jack" Davis as common sales manager, changing the retiring William Cowling. Evidently the change was a welcome one as far as the dealers were involved, for whereas Cowling was a superb public relations man, Jack Davis was a "salesman's salesman."
