The new extended-range Avatar: The Way of Water opening weekend box office projections have the sequel almost double the first film of James Cameron. The sci-fi thriller of 2009 set all kinds of box office records on its way to becoming the most-grossing film ever. Avatar: The Way Of Water Review has also drawn lots of attention to how much money Avatar 2 will make. Even though no one expects Avatar 2 to surpass the previous film's $2.9 billion worldwide haul The film's huge budget and the fact that Disney is investing in the future of the franchise means that there's some expectations to Avatar: The Way of Water to perform.

According to new long-range trackers provided from Box Office Pro, Avatar: The Way of Water is expected to earn an estimated $135 million during its first weekend in the United States. The Avatar film's original box office debut included a $77M opening domestically in December. So these new projections call for Avatar 2's first weekend at the box office to be nearly twice the initial. Avatar: The Way Of Water Review recommend that the sequel make $475M domestically by the conclusion the theatrical release this is lower than earlier reports and about half of the total amount Avatar earned domestically.

A record debut weekend Avatar: The Way of Water could be a fantastic beginning for the sequel's success at the box office. A reported $135 million opening could mean the follow-up will make within a single weekend what it took James Cameron's first film a full week to make. But, Avatar 2's box office isn't going to be able to find a road to surpass the original. The reason Avatar had such a remarkable box office run is the film's incredible word of mouth and repeat viewings that helped keep the movie relevant and on the screens for 234 days. That is unheard of nowadays even for the largest movies. For reference, Top Gun: Maverick was the highest-rated film of 161 days this year.

There's little doubt there is any doubt that Avatar: The Way of Water will beat the original film, however, it does not need to become the most-grossing production ever to be a success. The excitement for the sequel has completely squelched the notion that Avatar was not able to make a lasting impression on general audiences. Even if the sequel's box office is half as much as the original film but it still makes $1.3 billion and that would make Avatar 2's $1 billion box office a huge success. It's enough to make it the second highest-grossing movie in 2022.

There's there is a lot of pressure to Avatar 2's box office to be profitable enough to keep James Cameron's sequel ideas alive. Cameron is slated to make three more sequels and has Avatar 3 already completely filmed. There is also some work being done for Avatar 4. The director has said that If the sequel's box office falls short and the audience is not keen, Avatar 3 could be the final installment in the series. In that fashion, Avatar: The Way of Water's box office will play a major role in determining what comes the next James Cameron's films.
