3 Methods To Use Your Local Scrap Yard
Know what you are looking for. The most important point is to know what you need. To many people set off looking for parts before they really know what they are looking for. Do your research and make sure you have a good idea of what the going rate is, how can you get cheap parts if you don't know how much they are!?
Internet: You may even search for replacement parts on the Internet. Many web sites offer old and new auto parts. You may browse through a variety of auto parts to find the right replacement part. You need to be cautious, while placing bulk order for auto parts, since you are not aware of the dealer's market status. Chances are the online dealer may deceive you. Also, check whether the parts serve you a warranty or not.
One of the markets that you are opened up to online, is that of the car breakers. These are people who buy a car that is no longer fit for the road, and they literally take it apart piece by piece and sell it. For those who sell these parts online, this is like having access to a car scrap yard without having to go and negotiate with a gruff car scrapyard owner. For those of us who know relatively little about cars and prefer not to have to face the prospect of pointing out to an expert which car parts we need, this can be a big relief!
Recycling car parts saves a lot of space in landfills. Why throw something away when it can still be used? Also, buying used car parts allows you to use quality parts made by the original manufacturer. Recyclers are skilled in determining which car parts are damaged and which are reusable.
How would you like to have an almost endless supply of car parts? If the vehicle in question is an older make, model, and year, you may get your wish. When cars stop running, many owners decide to sell or giveaway the entire car. They are doing so because they just don't want to deal with the problem. Even if the engine no longer runs, a vehicle still has hundreds of other salvage parts. For that reason, don't just search for auto parts, but entire cars too.

Fortunately, I know of 2 American mechanics that are retired military who live and work in Okinawa near the Kadena Air Base. I saw firsthand the relief on the faces of customers who came in to drop off or pick up their cars.
This is the first problem. A reputable restorer will have a system to control the hours each specialist works on your truck and you'll have access to that information. Others may not be as honest and may charge you more than the actual hours worked. But how can you know?
Most of the large junkyards use a system called a "Hotline." If you call a junkyard and ask whether they carry a certain part, they'll check their inventory database while you're on the phone. If they don't find the part you need in their inventory, they can use their Hotline to quickly check the inventories of neighboring junkyards. A quick tip about the Hotline: ask the junkyard that is checking other yards what that particular part would have cost if they had it in their inventory. You may be able to negotiate the price with the other dealer.
Because you are typically ordering straight from the dealership or the manufacturer, you can get incredible savings. The savings are passed on to you when you buy direct from the source of the part.
