Chanteurs Guild
"The show must go on!"
The Chanteurs are the musicians and songsmiths of the dead. They use the Arconai of Keening to manipulate the emotions of their audience like a master fiddler manipulates the individual strings of his instrument to shed notes of deep and moving chords. The traditionalists of this art use song to convey and manipulate emotion, but every Chanteur uses an instrument of some kind, even if it's just a simple device used to keep time. Members of this guild are passionate and often arrogant or prideful, occasionally cursed with the hubris that plagues performers in life. This guild was formed to bring music to the underworld, and it's members often form small groups of troubadours to entertain and influence the social elite of Stygia. Chanturs, like most musicians, run the gambit from prideful prima donna to humble street performer. For every concerto or opera brought together to help alleviate a Deathlords stress, is a wandering minstrel or a ambitious chorus girl just looking to get a smile from their audience.
Keening is the transmission of emotion through sound. The emotions invoked by keening are generally not as strong as those experienced naturally, but emotion inherently has an infections nature spreading like a laugh from a light unnatural source to foster true deep feelings in those around them. Their innate understanding of emotion and how to manipulate it grants them the abilities to read their audience as well as to keep specific members so enraptured they cannot shake the performance for days. A common tactic is for Chanteurs to actively call out the emotions in an individual of a group and then feed on the feelings he sponsors in those around him.
The art of Keening has the powers Sense Emotion, Control Emotion, and Conditioning. Control Emotion is the cornerstone to their art. It allows a wraith to manipulate the emotions of their audience as well as custom tailor anyone to be compatible with their innate feeding ability. This makes a successful entertainer able to replenish their pool after a performance.
