Minecraft Makers Newest Game Blends Cliffs Horses And Dogecoin
Markus "Notch" Persson is mostly known as the creator behind Minecraft However, he's rapidly developing a reputation for eccentric games that include everything from speed typing to existential drama. If you're unsure it's best to check out his latest game, Cliffhorse. Worst lies It's absurd as the title suggests. You play as a horse that is pushing a huge rock ball over cliffs. However, the bare-bones design (which took all of two hours to build) is what's important. Persson described the Windows-only game to be an attack on developers who misuse early access programs. Worstlies He charges a fee for "minimum work" releases, which are theoretically the most useful. He's also aware of the irony, given that he charged for Minecraft long before it was completed.
In case the absurdity of the project wasn't evident, Notch is only accepting voluntary Dogecoin donations as payment; you can download Cliffhorse completely free of charge, if you like. It's just a shame that there's no profit model, since there's "no assurance of updates in the future." You might not be a fan of Persson's satire enough to give him virtual money. But, the launch might be helpful if it prompts some developers to put in a bit more work before they ask users to pay.
