Not content with just a few billions, Minecraft starts racking up more sales this week, when it goes live as a download on Xbox One - and perhaps PS4 too. Mojang's sandbox video game will be available on September 5, 2015. 360 owners will be able upgrade to the Xbox One for $5/PS4. Microsoft states that this upgrade applies regardless of whether you own an original disc or download copy. The full price version costs $20/PS16.

While the PS4 release date is not known however, Mojang's Daniel Kaplan tweeted saying that "Sony gamers can look forward to an exciting Minecraft surprise soon...or maybe sooner?" This tease came after a PlayStation France tweet claimed that the PS4 version of Minecraft would be available today. However, no other Sony channels have confirmed this. As soon as someone digs out a specific release date for the PS4 version, we'll let you know.

It is unlikely that the Vita version will be released this week. 4J Studios, the porting team, stated last week that it had "more work" to complete before sending Vita builds to Sony for certification.

The latest versions of Minecraft come with worlds that are up to 36 times larger than their predecessors of the previous generation, and greater draw distances. MINECRAFT SKINS Additionally, PS3 and Xbox 360 owners can transfer their Minecraft worlds into the PS4 and Xbox One versions respectively.

This announcement is coming at the same time that Mojang released Minecraft1.8 on PC. It's the update that has been in development for the longest at the Swedish studio, lasting 300 days. It's not surprising that it's quite massive, with a myriad of new features which you can read about here. Highlights include new Guardian and Endermite mobs balanced by the introduction of'd'awww' - rabbits. Oh, and killer bunnies who are less d'awww yet still a bit like d'awww. [Image: Mojang]
