These boats operate off the street and do not have established offices. The captains are not always licensed and the price they quote may not be the price you pay. The Tour Companies and are not really more expensive and they know how to get you there and back safely.
South African township culture is vibrant and colourful. Get a taste of rural Africa, by taking a guided tour through one of South Africa's largest informal settlements. The Soweto Tour is particularly popular, as you pass previous homes of former President Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Make sure to try a traditional African meal at one of the local 'shabeens'.
