Warcraft 3, the seminal RTS that launched Warcraft as a major franchise , and even created a small mod called DOTA, is being revamped. Called Warcraft 3 Reforged this remaster will be coming "next year" and will come with a brand new coat of paint, updating the graphics and animations so that they appear stunningly hi-res (4K is supported) while retaining that goofy Warcraft charm.

There's some cool new features, too. Every playable hero can be male or female and you can customize their appearance with skins. Don't fret, though you can still customize your character, as Reforged will also come with an editor that lets you still create your own gamemodes and maps.

This was a surprise announcement out of Blizzcon 2018 but we had a hint that this might be happening due to the fact that Warcraft 3 was the first game to get it. Warcraft 3 received some patches (opens in new tab) in the last year. This was a surprise considering how old it is.
