Minecraft players Minecraft won't be allowed to purchase game content like worlds, skins, persona items and other mods through NFTs.

Minecraft, the top-selling video game of all time, will not support NFTs because they "create a scenario of the haves and the not-so-haves".

In a shrewdly worded blog post on the Minecraft website yesterday (20 July), developer Mojang Studios said that the inclusion of NFTs could be incompatible with the game's principles.

"NFTs and other blockchain technologies create digital ownership that is based on scarcity and exclusion which is not compatible with Minecraft values of creative inclusion and playing together," the company wrote.

"The speculative pricing of NFTs and the investment mindset surrounding them takes the focus away from the game and encourages profiteering. We believe that this is incompatible with long-term joy and the success of our players."

Minecraft said that the announcement was made in response to community members who wanted clarifications about Minecraft's position on NFTs and blockchain.

This means that Minecraft, unlike other virtual world games, will not allow blockchain integrations into its server or client applications. In-game content like skins, worlds, items and other mods cannot be based on NFTs.

Microsoft-owned Mojang has also said it is concerned that some third-party NFTs may not be reliable and can end up costing players who buy NFTs. MEGA BLOG It mentioned scenarios in which third-party NFT managers could "disappear suddenly" or NFTs could "be sold at inflated or fraudulent prices".

"We acknowledge that the creation of our game has intrinsic value and we strive to create an environment where these values are acknowledged."

Online gaming has seen a rise in interest in blockchain technologies like NFTs. This topic was also discussed at Future Human earlier in the year.

GameStop and other companies have expressed their confidence in NFTs, and has also launched its own NFT marketplace.

Some companies aren't yet all-in. EA's CEO had previously stated that NFTs and blockchain could be the future of gaming, but he recently added: "Right now, it's not something that we're driving hard against".
